GAP finance consists of loans made against any unsold International rights and can amount to 5-15% of a film’s production budget, depending on the genre of the movie, the cast & International sales estimates. For example, if you have pre-sold your film in France & UK, then the Germany and European territories are available for GAP finance, or agree a loan, against predictions of sales in these and the USA territory. A GAP loan becomes a Super-GAP loan when it extends beyond 10-15% of the production loan required to shoot the film.
In the unlikely event the film production runs out of money prior to completing all of the editing or other post-production activities, the Producer can apply and pay for a ‘completion bond’. Completion bonds guarantee the producers that the film will be delivered to the distributor and undertake any over costs on the production. These bonds can be paid like normal insurance policies or take a percentage of the movie’s profits.
An International sales agent has the right contacts in the major territories with Worldwide buyers or distributors, and often enjoy privileged relationships with foreign buyers and distributors as they constantly seek a variety of ways to sell, market and distribute movies around the world. Which type of film will sell well and in which territory varies, and which genre of film is best considered in various countries also differs. It is the sales agent’s job to know what buyers are looking for in different parts of the world, as well as knowing which film buyers pay the right value and which ones don’t.
A well-respected Producer’s representative has the ‘ear’ of powerful distributors, major movie studios and sales agents; when this representative starts to promote your film, the chances of success and a distribution deal are greatly increased. They are essentially your ‘Hollywood Fixer’, helping with pre-sales, attracting talent, negative pickups and direct distribution deals taking a percent of the film’s profits. The Movie Fund has a number of producer’s representatives.
This is when a studio agrees to purchase the movie from the producer on a given date and for a fixed sum, effectively guaranteeing the sale of the film upon completion. Generally, a Producer will have a bank or lender available to provide a loan against the value of the negative pickup contract as a way of ‘shoring-up’ the film’s financial package. This is commonly referred to as ‘factoring paper’.
At any time, investors in The Movie Fund can contact our advisory board members who are trusted and highly experienced industry professionals, producers, financial and film fund advisors. If you should have any queries or questions; seek further independent investment & production advice from our advisory board such as returns on investment, movie compares & potential revenues etc.
We evaluate the potential success and return on investment (ROI) of a movie from typical movie comparisons with a similar Box Office, Movie Star pull and previous DVD revenues. We are proud to work with the very best film funds, financial advisors and lawyers in the business. A potential investor will be carefully taken through the film’s budget, potential profit, movie compares, online revenue reporting, investor packages, ROIs & timescales.
Product placement can be used to supplement a film’s budget; the ‘bond’ franchise is notable for its lucrative product placements deals which bring in millions of dollars. For the film, ‘Minority Report’, Lexus, Bulgari and American Express reportedly paid a combined $20 million for product placement which, at the time, was a record-high amount. Product placement may also take the form of in-kind contributions to the film, such as free cars or computers etc.
The Movie Fund’s team of tax incentive experts and line producers establish whether a film production will be best suited to take advantage of worldwide tax breaks, soft money and government film grants in order to (a) save money, and (b) generate tax savings for investors. Filmmakers can look to raise 30%+ or more of a film’s budget through these tax incentives.

Above the Line – Talent, cast, principal crew, Director & Producer’s fees.
Below the line – All the direct film production costs associated with the production, e.g. locations, catering, accommodation, equipment, stock, deliverables etc.
Once you have uploaded your movie page or script use our press & content writing department to create articles & press releases about your movie. You will then have free access to our extensive press release network enabling you to promote your movie page to thousands of media, radio, TV journalists & press contacts worldwide to attract more crowd funding investments.
Similar to Indie Go-Go or Kickstarter, filmmakers are able to self-promote their page to pre-sell DVDs, posters, memorabilia and even offer cameo & speaking roles to members of the public who pledge money. The Movie Fund will be partnering with a merchandise company to provide filmmakers branded products such as keyrings, pens, mousepads, posters and T-shirts to sell to the public.
